Text Box: Thanks to Caterpillar AC Employees
Michael Harris, 6 Sigma Black Belt and Operations Consultant, would like to thank all the VSI employees working at Caterpillar’s AC facility in Mossville, Illinois. “You are all great VSI employees and it was my pleasure to work with you for the past month,” says Mike. Thanks to all the employees who offered their ideas and help to Mike during his time at AC.

Ten Years of Service Recognized
Shelia Lee, Facility Manager, congratulates Eddie Lovett on 10 years of service on December 8, 2004, and Ed Norris on 10 years of service on January 16, 2005. Eddie currently works in the Caterpillar Reclamation area in Peoria, Illinois, where he has worked for the past 7 years. Ed currently works in the carpenter area at the Caterpillar PPK facility in Peoria, Illinois, where he has worked for the past year. Prior to that, Ed worked at the Caterpillar Tech Center facility in Mossville, Illinois. Shelia thanks both of these employees for giving 10 years of outstanding service.

Pontiac Receives Silver Award for Environmental Excellence Program
The Caterpillar Pontiac facility recently received the Silver Award for their Environmental Excellence Program, “Leadership in Social Responsibility.” Part of this was due to the internal recycling program at the facility. Mike Gernentz, Facility Manager, would like to thank all the VSI Pontiac employees who take the time to make sure the recyclable cardboard and plastic gets to the proper areas to be shipped to Caterpillar Reclamation. Mike also wants to thank Shelia Lee, Facility Manager, and her excellent VSI staff for their efforts in getting the job done. With their help, the Pontiac facility has been able to cut the amount of waste going to landfills.

Outstanding Customer Service
Special thanks to Mike Engelbrecht who works in the Office Services area at Caterpillar East Peoria. Mike recently received 2 compliments from Caterpillar employees on the quality of his work, the quickness of his response to customer requests, and his courteous attitude. Good job, Mike!

Text Box: Santa 2004
Text Box: Thanks to all of the employees who generously donated to the Santa 2004 program. Donations totaled $468, which the Company matched. Special thanks to the following groups of employees that made generous donations: Deb Lindstrom’s employees, Pam Robertson’s employees, Suzette Hall’s employees, Kathy Smith’s employees, the Commercial Floor Crew and Utility Crew, and John and Anna Kuklinski (for donating a doll). All of the applicants were very deserving and the committee had a difficult time choosing recipients. In the end, we were able to bring Christmas to 10 VSI families (with 24 kids in all) – 9 families in the Peoria area and 1 family from our outlying areas. Each family received clothing and toys for their children. Thank you so much for reaching into your hearts to help others this holiday season! Special thanks also to Debbie Parsley, Executive Assistant, and Vicky Leinweber, Safety Director/Employee Relations Manager, for their time and assistance helping purchase and wrap all the presents!

Text Box: I look forward to 2005 with great anticipation. 2004 was a difficult year with the loss of some business, but we also had some significant accomplishments to build on for the upcoming year. In Pontiac, we are helping to refurbish the factory by cleaning and painting floor to ceiling. The completed areas make the factory look like new. We have implemented a new technique for concrete polishing at Deere Harvester that is restoring decades old floors to better than new condition. According to our contacts at Heartland Community College, the facility has never looked this good. In December, we started cleaning the Greater Peoria Airport. A frequent traveler stopped one of our cleaners and told them that in all the years they have passed through the airport it never looked as good as it does now.
We have raised the bar on our expectations for the quality of the services that we provide. As our customers demand better service and value, we want to exceed their expectations. Our daily goal is to “wow” every facility every day with the service we provide. As the examples above illustrate, you have responded to this challenge.
Thank you for all the little things that you do each day to make this happen. With this commitment, we look forward to a great 2005.
John Austin, Vice President/CFO
