He wrote, “...I don’t ever recall having such a well balanced, smooth operating custodial service. Thanks to everyone for their hard work and perseverance...” Wow, congratulations to everyone on the VSI Heartland crew; this is a stupendous compliment!
Terrific Transfer Congratulations to Russell Collins on his new position. Russell transferred from Heartland Community College, working as a general cleaner, to the new U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington. He is now the full-time Day Porter there. The Coliseum is a new venture for us, and thanks in part to Russell, the first six weeks have been very successful. Congratulations, Russell!
Payroll Professional Connie Happach, Commercial Trainer, would like to thank Andy Hoffman, Payroll Bookkeeper, for his consistent professionalism and response time. Employee of the Quarter
Melinda Mays has been selected as Employee of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2006. Candidates for this award were evaluated on criteria such as Customer Service, Quantity & Quality of Work, Safety, Teamwork, and Attendance. Others nominated from various VSI locations and making this choice much more difficult were (in no particular order): Bill Spiller, Art Taylor, Leon Hughes, Ossie Bryson, Floyd Wombacher, Donna Fletcher, DeChana Henley, Ruthie Johnson, Donna Tadlock, Carla McKnight, Joe Cherry, Tawanda Fleming, Cynthia Masterson, Laura Saunders, Tresa Patterson, Jim Clingan, and Frances Blanchett. As an added benefit to this program, each employee who is nominated by his/her supervisor and manager – but not selected as the Employee of the Quarter – will receive a certificate for 20 kudos.
As winner of the Employee of the Quarter award, Melinda will receive a $200 bonus and a framed certificate. Melinda has been with Vonachen Services Inc. (VSI) since January 1998. She currently works in the Pontiac area. She is very hard working, dedicated, and willing to do extra. The customer compliments Melinda on her excellent skills and willingness to go above and beyond, “Melinda always responds quickly and professionally to my many requests.” Another customer writes, “Be advised that I have heard several good comments regarding Melinda’s work from other people seeking help. A lot of times we have a tendency to take good work for granted. We appreciate her efforts very much.” A VSI supervisor in Pontiac has good things to say about Melinda as well, “Anytime someone asks her to do something, she does it without hesitation. Without her knowledge and willingness to help, the supervisors and employees in this area would definitely be a step behind.”
During her time with VSI, she has had excellent attendance and is always punctual and dependable. She is truly deserving of this award, and VSI would like to thank her for the daily contribution she makes and the commitment she demonstrates regularly. The next Employee of the Quarter award will be decided in July (for the 2nd quarter of 2006). Hourly, non-supervisory employees shall be nominated by their supervisors. Nominations will be based on their performance in April, May and June 2006.
Note to supervisors: If you have previously submitted names for consideration, please do so again. The more information we have (above and beyond the questionnaire) the more it will help us make the best selection. Thanks to all who submitted employee nominations!

Tornado Season is Here!
April, May and June are the peak months for tornados.
Know the difference between a tornado “watch” and a tornado “warning.”
· A “watch” is when weather conditions are favorable for a tornado to form. · A “warning” is when a tornado has been spotted and is about to strike.
If a tornado warning is issued, you should seek shelter immediately. Go to the basement. If there is no basement, go to the lowest level in the house and into a bathroom or closet in the center of the building.
